This profile portrait, known as a silhouette, of Caroline Stebbins (1789-1865) was cut when she was fifteen years old and a student at Deerfield Academy.

The style of carving on the pair of three-dimensional miniature (2 1/2" to 2 3/8") stone heads is reminiscent of carving on gravestones and probably dates to the late 19th century.
