Ku-Klux-Klan.
A gentleman, who was formerly a resident of Greenfield, but who has for several
years lived in Columbia, S. C., sends to his father one of the many notices
posted up on the walls of that city, calling together the members of that mystic
order, which is becoming the terror of the poor freedmen of the South. A facsimile
of the placard we give below:
IN HOC SIGNIO.
KKK
Brethren of the Mystic Order, assemble in Solemn Convocation. The Bloody Moon
begins its course, and there is work to be done; for the Sacred Serpent has
hissed. FAIL NOT!

There is currently no available "Beginner" label. The following is the default level label: This is a representation of a notice from Columbia, South Carolina, calling for a meeting of the Ku-Klux-Klan. The Klan was founded in 1866 by veterans of the Confederate Army. The Klan opposed the policies of Reconstruction (1865-1877) and was effective in keeping freedmen from voting which enabled them to gain political control in many states.
