One of two social libraries in Deerfield, Massachusetts, the Second Social Library published in 1803 its laws, the rules of operation, and a list of the 188 books in the collection. The books covered the subjects of history, biography, travel, religion, and some works of fiction. The membership was all male and all twenty-six members were well educated.
